IISA Czech Republic

History

The history of winter swimming in the Czech Republic dates back to 1923, when Alfréd Nikodém swam publicly in the Vltava for the first time at Christmas. In his honor, since 1946, the Alfréd Nikodém Memorial has been floated regularly on December 26.
The International Ice Swimming Association (IISA) was founded in 2009 with the vision of making winter swimming a global sport.

IISA Czech is part of the worldwide IISA International, which operates in 46 countries with members in 73 countries with a membership base of more than 3,000 swimmers.

In the Czech Republic, it was led by Jiří Kuřina for a long time. In April 2024, IISA CZ moved under a new team.
